Amazing use of technology! The goggles are built for fun and measuring personal success, and yet they have a strong element of practicality/safety (GPS/Emerg beacon) in the case of a mountainside emergency.
This type of technology will be very usefull for many things. Saftey will be improved for those who enjoy mountain leisure. This could lead to exploration of places that have never been explored.
Interesting! Now all they need to do is shrink the goggles down and create glasses! What if they made sunglasses out of these? I could see Police Officers wearing them and using the glasses instead of radar guns for speed. Also add in a microphone and a earpiece and you have a replacement for police radio/cell phone!
I love the fact they have an emergency application because every year we hear about someone dying in the mountains so in terms of safety i really like these goggles.
I think the mountains are a great place to have this technology but why stop there. If they could be made to be waterproof why not take them out to the oceans. I think people who sail would find this technology out there helpful. It could let them know which way they are headed, how fast they are traveling, and where underwater reefs are located. This technology would be great for divers too. For instance it could tell the divers how far down they are, which way the surface is, how fast they need to rise when coming up, or how much air they have in their tank. It would be great to have sonar technology so they know exactly where the predators are and if they are headed your way! Not to mention that the ocean is another place where the emergency beacon application would come in handy.
My brother is a snowboarder and I had to run home home and tell him about it. He said to know your speed on the hill would be that best application for this. I think this could really help when training for events, like the olympics. Sure, old fashioned goggles are just fine, but this can take the sport to the next level! I can't wait for this technology to be applied elsewhere, like glasses for shopping! I'd love to be able to look at a store and see their new looks and sale items without having to enter!
These are pretty neat. I find myself wondering how distracting they would be. However, if they worked well, like Oriana said, they would be useful for so many things. I think in volleyball practice it would be interesting to know the speeds of serves and trajectory of sets.
